Your Guide to Cheerleading Shows

Over the years, a number of cheerleading shows have been popping up everywhere. Cheerleaders no longer are limited to “Bring It On” and “One Tree Hill” for their fill of cheer on television or the Internet. Now, cheerleaders can watch several shows focused on cheerleading, from web dramas to reality shows. Here’s a look at the hottest cheer shows: Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader No list of cheer shows is complete without Cheer Channel’s incredibly popular “Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader.” Now in its second season, this drama web series follows several cheerleaders of the Texas Twisters, a winning competitive cheer squad, as they navigate through high school dilemmas and cheerleading victories (and losses). Over the course of both seasons, several famous cheerleaders have guest starred, including Maddie Gardner, Gabi Butler, and Cami Branson. You can watch new episodes every Monday on Cheer Channel’s website. You can also catch up on past episodes from both season one and two on Secret Diary’s Youtube channel. Cheer! Produced by Kelly Ripa, the CMT reality show follows the Central Jersey Senior 5 All Star cheer squad as it prepares for and attends competitions. The show focuses on team difficulties, coach-parent confrontations, cheerleaders’ struggles, personal drama, and the stress that comes with high school. As the team travels weekend after weekend to various states across the country, the show touches on the financial hardships competitive cheerleading can have. The first season premiered in Fall 2012. Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team Also on CMT, this reality show centers on the cheerleaders auditioning to become a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. This is one of the oldest cheer-focused shows, having debuted in 2006. Each season follows the hopeful cheerleaders as they go through camp, training, dancing, rehearsals and more over the course of the long audition process. In the end, only 45 girls are chosen. Season seven of the series ended in late 2012. You can watch all seven seasons on CMT’s website. Cheerleaders Earlier this year, “Cheerleaders” debuted on Youtube channel AwesomenessTV. The web documentary series follows the California All Stars cheer squad as they train hard to win hard, all under the direction of a particularly intense and intimidating coach. The team is known for winning with champion athletes like Kiara Nowlin on the team, and the show follows their hard work (and struggle) to maintain their number one status. You can watch all episodes on AwesomenessTV’s Youtube channel. Cheer Perfection This TLC documentary show follows the cheerleaders of the very cheer-enthusiastic town, Sherwood, Arkansas. The coach, Sherwood residents, and cheer parents eat and breathe cheer, putting the pressure on the young cheerleaders. The Cheer Time Perfection cheerleaders are under constant stress to nail routines taught by the tough-love team co-owner. The show debuted in December 2012. Season two has yet to premiere but you can watch clips from season one on Cheer Perfection’s website. Liberty “Liberty,” a teen drama web series, is the latest show centered on the cheer world. While it has yet to debut, the series is about high school teenagers who can escape from school hardships through cheer. The teens use cheer to help them endure all of life’s dilemmas.
