The uniform is the ultimate symbol of cheerleading. You have the choice to purchase extra cheer gear, but once you make a team, the uniform is nonnegotiable. It is given to you as an honor and you wear it with pride. It brings the whole team together in unity and it is the one thing that shows your love of cheer the most. However, they can get dirty, sweaty, or constricting. Double knit can get hot inside a stuffy basketball gym, or in extreme heat at football games early in the season. Even with its drawbacks, you still secretly never want to take your uniform off. Since you can’t possibly wear it every minute of every day, here are four big reasons why you feel this way. Wearing it makes you feel like a superhero. Seriously, if you were cast in an upcoming Marvel movie about a new comic book character, you would choose your cheer uniform to fight crime in‚ especially the stretch performance one! You already fly and flip in it, which is more than most superheroes in those movies do anyway! Defying gravity is a daily occurrence, and there’s no limit to what you can do on a fitness level (cough, 1,000+ burpeees per practice). Which begs the question: why isn’t there a graphic novel about a crime-fighting cheerleader already? And, where is that movie deal in the making? C’mon, Hollywood, get with the times. You also feel like a celebrity around town. The urge to fight crime in the name of justice might subside a bit after you walk off the field or the mat, but once you start walking around town in your uniform, you notice that heads are turning. Cheerleaders make people happy, and residents within your community know how much you do through community service efforts and volunteer work. You deserve to get some recognition for all that you do for your town! Cheerleaders like to stand out in a crowd anyway; your uniform just helps you do so even more. You’ve never felt fiercer. You go full out, time and time again, and you think you’re pretty fierce. However, when you do that same routine in your uniform, it takes you to a whole new level of beast-mode. You hit all of your marks in perfect unison with your team, your facials are on point, and the crowd goes wild. Even though the audience applauds for everything they just saw, you know that part of every clap is due to how sleek you looked doing your routine. And, you secretly glow with uniform pride. No other team uniform has the same sense of status. Cheerleaders are born athletes, so it’s only natural that many try their hands at other sports‚ either through their school or recreationally. If you’ve ever tried out for another team and gotten on it, you’ve probably already felt the difference: cheer uniforms make you feel like a whole different person when you wear them and other team uniforms are merely pieces of clothing. There’s no embedded aura of achievement, of confidence, of charisma in other sports’ uniforms. It’s just something to wear at games. What else do you love about wearing your uniform?
