As stressful as summer can be for cheerleaders and squads, it’s hard not to groan when September arrives and it’s time to leave behind summer activities and start school. As we start a new month and season, here are 13 things we will and won’t miss about summer. Cheer camp. Though we may sometimes hate it during the hardest moments, every cheerleader loves camp. As summer ends, so does every squad’s camp. Don’t let that get you down; it’s never too early to start counting down until next year’s camp. Vacation. Hopefully you had a little bit of time over the summer to take a vacation, even if it was just a short weekend trip. Now that school is starting again, along with football season and soon competition season, your time for a vacation is definitely on hold for awhile. Back to reality. During summer, you have a chance to escape from normal responsibilities. The arrival of fall means back to planning and organizing your days so you can fit in school, homework, practice, games, competitions, fundraisers, and the occasional social activity or rest day. Pool days and bikinis. Need we say more? Hot practice days. Cheerleaders won’t miss practicing during the hottest months of the year. As fall begins, the weather cools down and you don’t have to worry about sweating as much. No school. This is something we will and won’t miss. As nice as it is not to have homework, school is fun! You should be excited to learn new things and get to see friends other than your cheer squad on a daily basis. Sleeping in. Even if you had a lot of summer practice, you still were probably able to sleep in more often than during the school year. Once school begins again, gone are the days of permanently putting your alarm on snooze. Dress code. Many schools have dress codes, which means you can’t wear your cute summer outfits. Sunburns. Nope. We definitely won’t miss sunburns or uneven tan lines. Practice wear. As much as we’ll miss summer practice wear, it’s always nice to stock up on new items for fall. Shopping and sales. It seems like all the best sales occur during summer. We’ll miss back-to-school shopping but won’t miss the crazy crowds at the mall. New uniforms. During summer, most squads don’t get the chance to wear their uniform. But with the fall season comes new uniforms and the chance to wear them at football games, pep rallies, and other school events. We definitely won’t miss the no-wearing-uniform days of summer. Crowds. No matter where you live, every city seems to be so much more crowded during the summer. Once fall begins, the roads aren’t as busy and the restaurants and coffee shops have available tables and seats again. What will you miss or not miss about summer?
