Cheerleading isn’t just a staple on the sidelines – it’s a cinema staple too! Pretty much any time that you go see a movie that is set in a high school or that has high school-aged main characters, you’re going to see some cheerleaders and some cheerleading uniforms! There are even several movies that center around directly around high school and competitive cheerleading. Here is a list of some of our favorites: Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1992 – starring Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland and Luke Perry The original movie eventually led to a cult favorite television series of the same name! Bring It On 2000 – starring Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku and Jesse Bradford The original movie led to several follow ups: Bring It On Again, Bring It On: All Or Nothing, Bring It On: In It To Win It and Bring It On: Fight To The Finish. Grease 1978 – starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John This classic sing-a-long was set in high school and featured the always-popular good girl and bad boy dilemma. We Are Marshall 2006 – starring Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Fox This story, based on actual events, was sure to include the Marshall cheerleaders as a vital part of rebuilding a football team after a tragedy. John Tucker Must Die 2006 – starring Jesse Metcalf, Brittany Snow, Ashanti and Sophia Bush This lighthearted comedy features three different high school stereotype girls that have their hearts broken by the same guy – so of course one of the girls is a cheerleader!
