How One Organization Method Can Transform Your Everyday Life

Don’t hate me, but I’m talking about organization again. But, before you roll your eyes, whisper a curse on us, and leave us forever, hear me out: organization can affect your cheer season and this two word method can boost your creative juices and get you back in tip-top cheer shape. I’m talking about feng shui. It’s a fancy word with a simple meaning: improve your life by rearranging what’s around you. Considered an art from China, feng shui has been around for centuries. If something has been around that long and is still being used, it must be pretty awesome. Need a little more help believing in this whole feng shui thing? Chinese practitioners believed that the orientation of a building (and everything inside it) determines the balance and flow of energy around you. The goal of feng shui is to optimize this balance and to minimize any negative energy that is getting in the way of you being your best self. While some of the tips may seem questionable or superstitious (like not having more than one pair of shoes by your front door entrance), many make a lot of sense. Here are a few great feng shui techniques that will boost your mood, reduce stress, and provide better tranquility and balance: Clean out clutter. First, you must start with a clean slate. Clear out everything you don’t need, store what you don’t need right now, and organize what you do need. This is the first step in creating harmony. Let sunshine and fresh air into your bedroom every day. Fresh air provides oxygen, which your brain needs. Sunshine boosts your mood and makes you happier. It’s the power of science! If you really want to be a feng shui rockstar, add a few air-purifying plants, like ferns, in your bedroom. Your headboard shouldn’t be under a window. While your bed can be near a window, your headboard shouldn’t be directly under it. Keep stones by your bed. On your nightstand, keep a small container of soft stones. It creates a sense of tranquility and provides a connection to nature. Move your computer out of your room. Your bedroom should be your sanctuary. It’s where you sleep, relax, and refuel for the day ahead. Your computer is often a source of stress. It’s where you work on homework and read news (and gossip). Keep that negative or stressful energy away from your sanctuary. Decorate with comfort in mind. Finally, decorate based on your needs and desires. For a loving and warm feeling, decorate with soft colors, like white and pink, and candles. Don’t forget the lavender. Lastly, incorporating lavender – whether it’s a candle or pillow spray – will help you rest and sleep more soundly. Lavender is known for its relaxing qualities. Do you believe feng shui works?
