With spring comes renewal, especially for cheerleaders – tryouts, a new squad, a new captain, new uniforms…the list goes on! There are so many wonderful things about spring, especially after a cold winter, and it’s not wonder it’s a favorite season for many people. Take a look at 13 things to love about spring. 1) Tryouts. Cheerleaders always have a love/hate relationship with cheer tryouts. They’re as nerve-racking as they are exciting. Either way, you’ve got to do them if you want to make the squad. Tryouts are your chance to show what you’ve got. It might even be your year to move up from JV to Varsity or become your squad’s captain! 2) A new squad. As sad as it is saying goodbye to seniors, it’s also exciting to see the new squad members for the next year. A new squad gives you the opportunity to bond with your teammates, make new friends and learn new stunts and routines. 3) The end of the school year. Whether you love or hate school, once spring hits, everyone is ready for it to be over! Luckily, with spring comes the end of the school year. Only a couple more months! 4) Prom. It’s the biggest school dance of the year and there’s nothing more exciting than planning and shopping for the perfect dress and shoes. Whether you’re going with a date or a big group of friends, prom is a night to remember. 5) Fresh air. It’s the perfect season for practicing or training outside. Change up your exercises and try jogging around your neighborhood instead of inside a gym on a treadmill; practice routines with your teammates in a park instead of indoors. The options are endless when the sun is shining but the heat is taking it easy. 6) New cheer gear. While back-to-school shopping may be in fall, shopping for cheer gear is a seasonal occasion! As you prepare for cheer camp and the next cheer year, you need new practice wear, cheer shoes, and maybe even a new, cute uniform! 7) Cheer camp. Speaking of cheer camp, it’s time to start counting down the days! Once spring hits, you can learn some details about upcoming camp and what you’ll be doing. Then, spend the next few months crossing off the days in your calendar and packing your bags! 8) Banquet. The end of the school year brings end-of-the-year activities, like cheer banquet. Even though tears are shed and sadness shared, banquet is all about reliving the year and all of the great memories. 9) Longer days. Finally it’s no longer dark by the time cheer practice ends! With spring comes the time change, which means an extra hour of daylight. You can stay out longer and cheer later into the evening without having to battle the dark. 10) Warmer weather. Like fresh air, spring raises the temperature. You can finally take off your double knit warm-ups and practice in shorts and cheer tanks. 11) More free time. As the sports seasons wind down and competitions come to an end, spring offers cheerleaders the chance to breathe and relax, even if it’s only for a few weeks. Use the time wisely! Plan a weekend trip with friends, read a book at the beach, take the long way home after school; whatever you do, relax and prepare for the new season! 12) TV show season finales. It’s a good and a bad thing. We always love finally reaching the end of a season to find out the secrets and scandals of characters. At the same time, it’s bittersweet to see it end because then you have to wait months before the return of the next season. However, we are particularly excited to find out how season 2 of Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader ends! 13) Flowers! Who doesn’t love fresh flowers? Spring wouldn’t be spring without blooming flowers. Flowers put everyone in a good mood. Add a vase of flowers to the locker room and you’ll notice everyone’s moods perk up before practice! What are your favorite things about spring? What makes it a special season for your squad?
