10 Things to Do in 2014

Even if you don’t achieve everything you wanted, we still think it’s a great idea to create a list of things you want to accomplish before the end of the year. Big or small, it’s all up to you how creative or motivated you want to get. Here is our list of 10 things we think cheerleaders should have on their list of things to do in 2014: Learn something really difficult. Whether it’s chemistry or a front aerial, everyone can think of something they think is impossible to learn. Make this the year you learn it – or at least attempt to get a few steps closer to learning it. Get an A in a really hard class. There are classes we love (English!) and classes we hate (biology). While it’s great getting a good grade in a class we enjoy, it’s a whole other feeling of accomplishment when we get a good grade in a difficult class. Take a vacation. Everyone needs a break from hectic schedules. Take a trip somewhere relaxing this year (and, if you’re lucky, take two of them). Spend a day doing absolutely nothing. This is something cheerleaders never do. They either have practice, schoolwork, social activities, or family responsibilities. Book a Saturday or Sunday just for you. Watch TV, read a great book, or paint your nails. Whatever you choose, make it fun, relaxing, and without any work involved. Make a new friend. It doesn’t have to be a life-long friend, but take the time to get to know someone on a deeper level. Go a week without Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. You can do it and you’ll be amazed at how great it will feel. Connect with nature. Go on a hike, a walk, a park picnic, horseback riding…anything that gets you out of the house and into the woods. Go to the movies alone. People always assume being alone is the same thing as being lonely. Break the stigma that being alone is a bad thing. Go to the theater alone and see a great movie. Be someone’s role model. You can do this by volunteering to help out a youth squad or just helping out a peer with a hard homework assignment. Consider a new career path. Even if you’re only in middle school, it’s never too early to start thinking about fields and careers that interest you. Research a new one, like becoming a pediatrician or kindergarten teacher, and see if it’s something you would want to pursue in college. What are your goals for 2014? What should we add to the list?
