The L Thigh Stand is an extension and adaption of the basic Thigh Stand. It is more advanced, since it only requires a 2-person stunt group. Though a basic move, the L Thigh Stand still requires strength, agility, skill and trust among squad members. This move should only be performed under proper, trained supervision to ensure the safety of everyone. Before any cheerleading team stunt group attempts a stunt, they should discuss and decide on a standard count series. Every stunt should be done on counts, and it is typically the responsibility of the spotter to keep the beat and call it out. Then, they will bend their inside leg, lunging sideways. Their outside leg should remain straight. The base should be sure to keep their backs straight throughout this stunt. After the flyer places their foot on the base’s leg, the base should place their same arm so that it is wrapped around the flyers leg just above the knee and hold the flyers foot with their other hand. Flyer: The flyer should face forward, slightly behind the base, with their arms against their sides. After the base is in position, the flyer should place one hand on each of the base’s shoulders, and rest one foot on the base’s thigh. Spotter: There should be at least one back spotter for this stunt (not shown in above image). The spotter should be positioned directly behind the flyer, facing forward. The spotter should place their hands on the flyer’s waist. Lift Flyer: The flyer should position one hand on each of the base’s shoulders, keep their arms bent and their elbows up, and transfer their weight from their legs to their arms. Simultaneously, the flyer lifts one leg to about a 90-degree angle, placing that foot onto the base’s thigh. Once the base has the proper grip on the flyer’s foot and leg, the flyer should use their arms to push off the ground and go into a standing position and placing arms straight down at their side. The loose leg will hang behind the base. Once the flyer is in a standing position, the flyer should extend their loose leg out to the side. Once that leg is in its final position, the flyer should hit an L position with their arms – matching the direction of their legs. Bases: On the right count, the flyer will lift up onto the base’s thigh. Once the flyer is in a steady standing position and begins to lift their loose leg to the side, the base should release the flyer’s foot and bring that arm to the side to hold the flyers leg. The base should position their hand on the flyer’s mid calf, and help push the leg into the L position. Spotter: The spotter should position their hands on the flyer’s waist and follow the movement of the flyer throughout the entire stunt. Their grip should be firm, but loose enough so that it is not restricting. During the lift, the spotter should help the flyer onto the base’s thighs. Simultaneously, the spotter is calling out the count series clearly and loudly.
