Whether she’s a friend, teammate, or both, helping a friend with a serious or complicated issue is not easy. First of all, you yourself are young and may not even know how to handle the situation or know what to say that would help. It’s important to know how to handle serious situations and know when to reach out to an adult or coach for help. You want everyone on the cheer squad at their best! Unfortunately, eating disorders among teenagers aren’t that uncommon. Before you confront a friend you believe has a disorder, know what defines a disorder and how to approach the situation. A common but problematic situation is when a teammate is falling behind in class. To remain on the school cheer squad, you must maintain a certain GPA. Luckily, there are a few ways you and your teammates can help everyone maintain good grades! A very serious problem that should never be taken lightly is drug or alcohol addiction. Once you know the signs, you can learn how to handle the problem and know when it’s gone far enough that you should get him/her help. Particularly in high school, friends and teammates will be dating. If you think a teammate or friend is dating someone who is a bad influence or who is abusive, know how to approach the situation.
