The first year of cheer is always the most difficult. New cheerleaders don’t know what to expect and they usually have a lot of questions. In July, we released a great eBook all about the first year of cheer. You can download it now for free. But, since school is about to start, we wanted to find a few more tips from our readers, for our readers. We asked current and former cheerleaders on social media for their tips and advice and we received a ton of responses! So many of them had great things to share. For anyone out there feeling nervous or just has a lot of questions, we hope we can answer a lot of them for you, thanks to our awesome fans. Check out the great advice from cheerleaders below. We even have a great tip from a pro! “Don’t be scared if you sound like a man, have bruises from hitting your motions so hard, and have fun.” – Emily “It may be tought and at some moments you might just want to quit because it’s hard, but push through it. If there is a tumbling pass you just can’t do, don’t quit because when you finally get it it’s amazing. Most of all, cherish the moment and love your new big family that you get with cheer.” – Jennifer “SMILE!” – Brittany “Hands on hips and smiles on lips!” – Brenda “No matter how much you want to give up, don’t. The bruises, sweat, tears, and possibly drama will all be worth it in the end. Just have fun!” – Charnette “It’s going to be tough but push through it because in the end it will be worth it. Keep going because it’s a lot of fun.” – Alyssa “Always stay confident. If you feel like you aren’t catching on, don’t worry because not everyone learns quickly.” = Adi “Try your best no matter what. Always give 100%, don’t give attitude, and if you don’t nail something the first time it doesn’t mean you won’t get it eventually. Stay positive and always remember to smile, sparkle, and shine.” – Lyssa “You won’t get everything right away but just keep trying over and over.” – Lani “There will be drama but you’ll get through it!” – Saharra “Think up, not down in all that you do.” – Carnation “Don’t be afraid to do something that looks scary. Go for it and trust your team. Your squad will is like a family and everyone watches out for each other.” – AdriAnn “When you stunt, don’t be afraid to get bruises. If you worry, it just makes it more difficult to stunt.” – Marisa “Stretch at home!” “It’s tough getting used to it all but it’s so much fun” – Lacy Lastly, follow these great words from Cindy Villareal, the CEO of Cheer Channel and a former NFL Dallas Cowboys cheerleader: Always give your best and realize that everyone is part of the same team. No one is better than the other. You will have conflicts at times but just remember, you signed up for it; stick with your commitment. Fun is for the field or for the mat, but practice is for learning!” We host some fun discussions on social media.
