Every season has its ups and downs, and this goes double for the transitional
seasons of spring and fall – when you don’t know what the weather is going to be from day to day! Despite not knowing if you have to bring a coat with you
when you leave the house, there are definite benefits to fall that rev you
up from the summer sadness you may be experiencing. Although the
temperature is only going to drop from here on out, you know that you're excited that autumn
has arrived, and here’s why:
1. The colors are something out of a
After a very green summer, you find yourself awed and amazed when you spot the
first trees turning color around your neighborhood. It’s almost like you forgot
that nature could be so beautiful! And, before you even blink, all of the trees
follow suit and your town is transformed into a Legend of Sleepy Hollow
replica – just in time for Halloween!
2. The brisk air chills and thrills you.
What’s Halloween without a chill down your spine? Whether
that’s from seeing spooky displays on your neighbors’ lawns or from the sharp
contrast in outside temperatures from summertime, you all of a sudden realize
that you’re pretty stoked for the holidays to start happening! You might not
even mind a little snow soon.
3. Pumpkin. Spice.
The minute that Starbucks rolled out the pumpkin spice syrup
is the minute you knew your life was complete. That day, you
literally write ‘pumpkin-flavored everything’ on your grocery list before
leaving the house. Like you even needed to write yourself a reminder…
4. One word:
Summer is great for tanning and all, but it’s been a while
since you’ve felt comfortable wearing… anything. Fall means that you can bust
out the boots, the sweats, the fuzzy socks, the slippers, the flannels, and the
blankets. Your velour robe that’s been hanging neglected on the back of your
bedroom door has been waiting so patiently, too.
5. Raking leaves into
piles… just to destroy them.
There are few things in life better than jumping into a pile
of leaves. Sure, it’s scratchy afterwards. Sure, you’ll have to re-rake the
leaves so your parents don’t get mad. But, there’s something about that crunchy
and destructive jump that makes you feel like a little kid again. It’s kind of
like running and jumping both feet onto a grocery cart to fly through the
parking lot–you’ll never get too old for it.
6. That sweet, sweet
smell of sugar and spice.
Autumn has a lot of smells that go along with the changing of
seasons, and apple cinnamon is a main one. You smell blossoming apple trees on the
streets, the apple pies baking in the oven, and you've already sprung on buying the apple cinnamon Glade plug-ins, just to encapsulate that sweet smell of fall into your home. And, everywhere you go, there is a surplus of scented candles smelling of pumpkin,
cedar, and sugar cookies!
7. The landslide of
Whether it’s because you’re a fan of football, or you’re
taking part in Homecoming celebrations, or attending all the holiday festivities,
fall brings with it a huge influx of hometown pride! Spring sports do bring
people together, but there’s something about holidays mixing with sporting
events mixing with weather inconsistencies that makes your whole town bond a
little bit better.
8. The holiday spiral
Fall semester is a sad transition from summer, but luckily,
the holidays help it fly by! With one major holiday after another, before you
know it, it’ll be time to turn in your final projects and head into winter
break! And, you’re definitely not complaining!
