The spirit event of the year is coming up: Homecoming! As the school's ultimate spirit leaders, it's up to you to get everyone pumped up and cheering on the home team. Keep these five things in mind to make the most of your role as cheerleaders at Homecoming:

1. If someone on your squad is the Homecoming Queen, make sure you have planned how to work around her absence. Decide if she will cheer with you before and after and, if so, when she will leave to go get ready. Make sure you don't do any stunts you need her for without having someone to fill her position. Most importantly, cheer loud and support your teammate!

2. You are the entourage for the Homecoming King and Queenbe a good one! Pump up the crowd for them and show your own excitement so it will spread.

3. You probably have an awesome Homecoming routine planned for halftime, but find out well in advance how much time you will have on the field. Is the dance team or marching band performing, too? Discuss what order you will go in. You could even consider collaborating with the dance team for one big halftime show. The Super Bowl has nothing on you!

4. Take advantage of the big-game turnout. With students, alumni, parents, and community members coming to the game, supporters will be in full swing. This is a great time for fundraising! You can sell spirit gear or walk the stands with Fun"d"2Raise cards to raise money for your squad.

5. Show good sportsmanship. Homecoming brings out the school spirit in everyone, but that can be taken too far. Focus on cheering for your team, not against your rival. Don't boo or bash the other team when they score, just cheer loud and proud when your team does! If you are respectful and positive, the crowd will follow your lead.
