It’s May, which means we’re that much closer to summer! After what seems to have been a very long winter, we’re ready to finally say goodbye to jackets and welcome in sunglasses and bathing suits. We hate to disappoint the other seasons, but we can’t hide it; summer is our favorite season and for 13 good reasons. School’s out! Perhaps the biggest indicator of summer’s arrival is the last bell of class. Finals are over. Homework is turned in. You’re either graduating or gearing up for the next year. Warm weather. Wherever you are in the country, summer means sun and warm weather. The sunny weather makes everything seem a lot more wonderful and enjoyable, even if it’s washing your car or gardening in the yard. Day trips and vacation. Head to the beach or the lake; ride a bike; drive with the windows down. Wherever you go, summer makes it seem like an adventure! Cheer camp. Enough said. Well, not really. We could go on for hours listing all of the amazing things about cheer camp. Spirit building activities. Even though this is technically part of cheer camp, it deserves its own number; it’s THAT awesome. Spirit building activities are fun and a great way to unite and strengthen the squad. Bonding with your new squad. With camp and summer practice comes the time where you get to bond with and get to know your new teammates. Go out of your way to learn as much as you can about your fellow squad mates. It will make the rest of the year so much better. New year, new beginnings. Even though the year starts in January, for cheerleaders, it really doesn’t begin until summer when you start practicing new routines with a new squad. Cheer gear. What cheerleader doesn’t love new gear? Around this time of year, you’ll soon be getting new team uniforms, and possibly other fun gear, including warm-ups, bows, shoes, and more! More time for cheer. Since you won’t be in school, you’ll have more time for cheerleading, whether it’s practicing, performing, stretching, or daydreaming about cheer. New goals. As the new cheer year starts, summer is the perfect time to create new goals for the upcoming fall season. Make a list of things you want to accomplish over the summer and how you want to improve. Catching up with friends. Summer is the best time to catch up with old friends. Between cheer and school, it’s hard to have any time to hang out with friends. Once summer arrives, it’s time to rekindle your friendships. Learning new skills. While you may be learning new stunts and routines all year long, summer is when you really get to work on your cheer skills. Your coach will have a new routine, new exercises, and new stunts for you to learn and perform. Time to get ready! Cheer practice wear. Now that it’s summer, it means you can finally wear your awesome cheer shorts and tanks without feeling cold! Shop new cheer collections and stock up on the newest cheer gear so you can be the most stylish cheerleader of the summer. What is your favorite thing about summer? What are you most forward to?
